May 8, 2026 was a big day at Oceans of NYC. Several records fell at once:
- First 100+ sighting day — more sightings logged in 24 hours than ever before.
- 21 contributors in a single day — also a record.
- 3,000 total sightings crossed.
- 1,500 unique Oceans spotted.
- 60.0% of the known fleet cataloged.

For context: it took ~2 months to go from zero to 10%. We’re now north of 60%. The slow part is theoretically still ahead — the last 40% includes whichever Oceans rarely leave their garages, or work routes nobody happens to walk — but the rate has been climbing, not falling.
Thanks to everyone who was out there with a camera that day.
