We’ve added Tags so the good photos can find their way to the top.
Badges are earned by contributors and calculated automatically from their sightings. Tags are the opposite: they’re nominations from whoever is looking at a photo. See a coffee-colored Ocean, or two of them in one frame, or a shot that just belongs in a coffee table book? Say so.
There’s no account and no sign-up. Click the tag, and it counts.
The tags
- 🟥 Rare Color: Red — one of the rare red Oceans
- 🟫 Rare Color: Coffee — one of the rare coffee-colored Oceans
- 👯 Multi-Ocean — two or more Oceans in a single frame
- 🌴 CA Mode — the rear window is down, the way California Mode leaves it
- 📸 Great Photography — a photo that belongs in a coffee table book
- 🗽 That’s So NYC — a photo that captures New York City perfectly
There’s also a 🚩 Report tag for a photo that’s broken or isn’t of the right vehicle. That one never shows up as a chip on the photo — a single visitor shouldn’t be able to publicly label someone’s submission as broken — but we see it and can act on it.
Where to tag
Every card in the feed has a Tag photo button that opens the picker.
If you’d rather just work through the archive, /random serves one photo at a time and leans toward photos nobody has tagged yet, so the older sightings get looked at too. It’s the fastest way to help, and it’s a little addictive.
The tags page is the payoff: every photo that has earned a tag, filterable by tag and sortable by how many nominations it has. Sort by Most tagged with Great Photography selected and you’ve got the project’s greatest hits.
Right now nearly every photo in the catalog has never been tagged. Go tag some.
